Aizawl (zoramobserver.com): Zo Re-Unification Organisation (ZORO), the Chin-Kuki-Mizo group organization, which seeks re-unification of all Zo people and bringing them under one administrative unit, has congratulated Indian star boxer Mary Kom on her winning gold medal at Asian Women’s Boxing Championship in Vietnamese city of Ho Chi Minh on Wednesday.
“We are strongly proud of Mary Kom, who belonged to the Zo community for winning gold medal at the Championship to become the first boxer in the world to claim five gold medals in 48kg category at the continental meet,” the organisation said in a statement.
Magnificent Mary Kom won her fifth Asian Boxing Championship gold medal – first in the 48kg category – by defeating Korea’s Kim Hyang Mi in the summit clash on Wednesday at Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. The five-time world champion and Olympic bronze-medalist won in a unanimous 5-0 verdict.
Having been away from the boxing ring for a long period, this was the first time in five years that Mary Kom returned to her favourite 48-kg category and emerged victorious. It was her first international gold medal since the 2014 Asian Games and first medal in more than a year.
