Aizawl, November 9 (zoramobserver.com): The central executive committee of Young Mizo Association (YMA), the largest and most influential youth based civil body in Mizoram today filed a complaint with the Superintendent of Police (SP), Mamit against Paritosh Chakma, who claimed himself to be the convener of Mizoram Chakma Areas Single Administration Demand Committee (MCASADC) over his abusive remarks against the organization for its resolution to take legal steps for the abolition of the existing Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC).
The Central YMA in its FIR strongly slammed Chakma for making a remark which alleged that a resolution seeking the abolition of the CADC by YMA was only a ploy because if they are successful, they (YMA) will, thereafter, demand the abolition of the Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC) and the Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC).
“The allegation leveled by Chakma against YMA could therefore, disturb the environment of brotherhood and solidarity among all Mizo tribes,” the organisation said, adding that the resolution to abolish the CADC which was passed at the 71st general conference of YMA did not cover and include the abolition of MADC and CADC.
The organisation in its FIR appealed to Mamit SP to apprehend and take necessary action against the Chakma leader for his inflammable remarks which, according to Central YMA, could instigate ethnic feeling and create division among the Mizos.
In its general conference held at Zotlang village in Champhai district during 17- 19 October, the YMA passed a resolution vowing to take legal steps for abolition of the CADC which was allegedly ‘constituted illegally.’
Terming the resolution ‘communal,’ the MCASADC leader Paritosh Chakma in a release earlier alleged that it could create tension among different communities of Mizoram and also endanger the existence of two other autonomous district councils – the MADC and the LADC which were constituted along with the CADC in 1972.
“By demanding the abolition of the CADC, the YMA is communalizing the administrative arrangements made for the minorities in the state. The demand for the abolition of the CADC by YMA is only a ploy because if they are successful, they will, thereafter, demand the abolition of the LADC and the MADC. It is precisely for the same reason that the Hmar Autonomous Council is being opposed,” Chakma also alleged in a release.
