Race row: African American speed skater Shani Davis Boycotts Winter Olympic opening ceremony

Skater Shani Davis has boycotted the opening ceremony at the Winter Olympics after he lost a coin toss to Erin Hamlin to be the US flag bearer.

Hamlin is a four-time Olympian who won a bronze at Sochi 2014.

Davis on the other hand is a five-time Olympian and he is the winner of two gold medals and two silver medals.

Hamlin on her part tweeted that she was “beyond grateful” to lead Team USA into the stadium during for big opening ceremony of the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

The opening was a spectacular event attended by over 30,000 people, including a 200-strong North Korean cheerleading squad.

Among the dignitaries present were US Vice President Mike Pence, Japanese Prime Minister Abe and Kim Jong-Un’s sister Kim Yo Jong.

Do you think Davis is doing the right thing? Is he playing a victim card with race? Is a coin toss not a fair decider?
