Muolhoi (Assam): Muolhoi Village Committee president Pu (Upa) H L Sanga Neingaite led by example in taking up development work on May 17 when he donated money from his own pocket to conduct road repair works on the Kanan Veng stretch of the village.
The roads have not been repaired by the government despite several petitions, according to some villagers.
Villagers and auto drivers also pitched in to help level the roads.
“Now vehicles are able to ply smoothly again, thanks to the president’s timely assistance,” said one of the road users.
Pu Sanga was elected to the post in 2016 and he will hold office till 2020. He is also the Executive Member of Hmar Inpui (Karbi Anglong & NC Hills Region).
“This is not the first time he has contributed his own money to take up community development works. Previous years, with his help we repaired culverts and roads,” said a Zoram Observer source.
And on being asked why he took the initiative, Pu (Upa) Sanga said that he cannot just sit back and wait for development to happen.
“At times when the government is not responsive, we need to do what we can from our side,” he said.
