History taught us that people like Alexander the Great, Abraham Lincoln, Albert Einstein, Columbus, Martin Luther, Che Guevara, Mahatma Gandhi and Socrates were influential people who could move the heart of millions. But, who could have thought that a mere government worker like Dr. Jire Pudiate, a young woman belonging to one tribal group of Manipur, could move many hearts in and outside of Manipur.
Dr. Jire is a hard working woman as a government employee. Unlike many government employees who hardly do what they are paid to do or who become an actors/actresses by not working, yet getting monthly paychecks. Dr. Jire has fulfilled her day to day work as a government doctor, despite tending to her ailing father. She translated the Hippocratic oath that she took into practice everyday life of her life as a doctor by serving the sick. The general public is well aware of her dedication. Some people even called her ‘Doctor without boundaries’. Her commitment and love exceed the boundary of races, creed or community. I called her ‘mother of the needy.’
Not just a record for Manipur, but a world record!
Dr. Jire (CCpur, DNO NPPCD) and a team of 10 doctors organised NPPCD program and distributed a record free hearing aid to more than 6,000 patient at Imphal on November 5, 2016. Some doctors employed by the state government pushed beyond their limit to make life a little bit easier for the public. However, there are so many people who worked just to get paid every month and they have no moral authority to even talk about the achievement of Dr. Jire and her colleagues. The irony is these dedicated band of government workers in Manipur hardly get the recognition they deserved. People who get gold medal, silver medal or bronze medal in Olympics and other sporting events are awarded both by the Central government as well as the state government. However, when our doctors broke the world record – remember it’s not Imphal record, not Manipur record and not Indian record alone, but the world – they weren’t even recognised for the feat. But, unlike hundreds of government doctors they keep on working at their places of posting.
Despite all her efforts and professionalism, Dr. Jire on July 29 was suspended. This has brought tremendous stress on her and her family. A punishment which she never deserved. She was punished for a crime she never committed. The place where she shed sweats for the whole day became a place she was punished. Why is the government so slow in giving an appreciation award for an achievement, yet so quick to pull the trigger on Dr. Jire – who by the way has brought laurels to the state.
Even though, Chief Minister Pu Biren Singh’s government was the one that pulled the trigger, he was just doing his job and readers must not blame him for his action. He doesn’t bring shame on his government as well as the state of Manipur. He is the representative of Manipur, doing his work faithfully. However, the real mystery is: Who pulled the strings that finally led to the suspension of the doctor? The people responsible for this fiasco not only humiliated Pu Biren Singh’s led government, but make him suspend one of the best government workers.
How this hypothesis came into existence?
The CMO of Pherzawl District as well as the CMO of Churachandpur District have testify that Dr. Jire is innocent and was doing her work as per the instructions from her superiors. From their statements, Dr. Jire already report herself so also she was at Henglep PHC. The two order issue in a matter of three days was one of the incident we hardly see in a well-administered state administration. It’s worthy to jot it down in our daily dairy. On careful analysis of all the material available, a conclusion can be made: there has to be a mastermind in ‘The 29th July Conspiracy Mystery.’ The people responsible for all these mess must have a good connection within both the medical professional groups and the politicians. By widening the scope, is communal interest running under the shadow too? Or is it just a personal greed? Who could convinced the Chief Minister to take such action that’s based on false accusation? This action has dented the good image of our respected chief minister and his government. In addition, it has brought immense emotional stress on the hardworking woman – Dr. Jire. Some sources has said that she is contemplating quitting her current job and work for a private charity hospital. It is only reasonable for the government to restore the doctor’s dignity by outrightly cancelling the suspension order – not simply revoke it.
Will the government simple revoke the suspension order and continue as if nothing happened? It may be better if the government step up and grab this opportunity as the right moment to make its statement clear that errant officials – including absentee teachers – would not be tolerate, but hard workers are treated fairly and with respect. Many people are starting to ask whether the government will eventually punish errant officials who committed this mess!
The general public is eagerly waiting for an answer to the mystery behind Dr. Jire Pudaite’s suspension.
