Aizawl: Senior Congress spokesperson Bobbeeta Sharma on Saturday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra by accusing him of squandering national interest and public purse and promoting a culture of crony capitalism at the cost of public sector undertakings by announcing the purchase of 36 aircraft from Paris according to Rafale deal.
Speaking to reporters at Aizawl Press Club here, the Congress leader from Assam said that Prime Minister Modi had on 10 April, 2015 announced emergency “off-the-shell” purchase of 36 Rafale aircrafts in Paris for Euro 7.5 billion (Rs 1670.70 crore for each aircraft) by scraping the deal made during the Congress-led UPA government according to which 126 Rafale fighter jets off the shelf will be purchased at Rs 526 crore per aircraft.
With looming threats from China and Pakistan, she slammed the Prime Minister for reducing the number of aircraft from 126 to 36 and increasing the price from Rs 526 crore to Rs 1670 crore per jets.
She said that the move of the Prime Minister did not compromise national security while external threats are looming large.
Sharma, who is the general secretary of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee said that the NDA government incurs Rs 41,205 crore loss of public money by purchasing a Rs 526 crore aircraft for Rs 1670 crore and asked the Prime Minister as to why an extra amount of Rs 41,205 core is being paid from public purse.
She said that Rafale scam is the biggest scamp of BJP government at the centre.
Sharma said that no mandatory prior approval of Cabinet Committee on Security was taken at the time of announcing purchase of 36 Rafale aircrafts by Modi, who also violated Defense Procedure for price recovery and also sacrificed transfer of technology to PSU and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the manufacture of Rafale aircraft in India.
She accused Modi of snatching Rs 36,000 crore ‘offset contract’ from HAL, the work share agreement that the PSU made with Rafale Dassault Aviation during the UPA government.
Sharma blamed Prime Minister Modi for awarding ‘Offset contract’ worth Rs 30,000 crore and ‘Life Cost Contract’ worth Rs 1 lakh core to Reliance Defence Limited and questions the BJP government why the contracts were given to a company that has zero experience for manufacturing fighter jets by sidelining HAL.
She also alleged that the BJP government acted clandestinely to damage the Congress.
Sharma, who arrived in Aizawl a day after state senior Congress leader and home minister R. Lalzirliana resigned, however, refused to comment on the issue of resignation of the latter.
