Mizoram and Manipur have been listed as one of the safest places for women in India.
According to child development NGO Plan India which released the Gender Vulnerability Index (GVI) – ranking Indian states which are safest for women – Mizoram came third with a GVI score of 0.620. The list was topped by Goa while Bihar came at the last.
The composite index was developed within research for the NGO’s Plan for Every Child campaign which is aimed at comprehensively understanding the dimensions of various problems affecting children, particularly girls, in difficult circumstances. The GVI report was released by Plan India on November 1 during its national conference in Delhi.
This index provides a state-wise ranking which is calculated by analysing four issues pertinent to the situation of girls — child safety/protection, poverty, health and education. Here are the top 10 states where women are safest in India, according to the study.
