Aizawl, June 14: Along with rest of the world, Mizoram on Thursday observed ‘World Blood Donor Day’ across the state with a theme ‘Be There for Someone Else – Give Blood , Share Life.’
The grand observance held at Lal Thanhawla auditorium here was graced by health minister Lal Thanzara as chief guest, while Mizoram Youth Commission chairman Joseph Lalhlimpuia was the guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Lal Thanzara said the people of Mizoram paid rich tribute to those volunteers, who had voluntarily donated blood to save other lives.
He urged the people of Mizoram to come forward for more blood donation as the demand for blood has kept increasing.
“We should take efforts to be a blessing for others by donating our blood. We should not wait for blood donation camp but donate our blood as per our convenient,” he said.
He said that donating blood on a voluntary basis is a practice which is relevant to Christian culture.
He also said that the government will recruit more doctors on a contractual basis to ease off shortage of staff in blood banks.
Joseph Lalhlimpuia also said that voluntary blood donors are valiant persons, who donate blood for others at the cost of their lives.
He urged the youths to take blood donation as part of church ministry.
During the blood observance, best donating blood NGOs, groups, church organisations and individual, who donated blood during 2017-18 were honoured.
World blood donor day was also observed in different parts of the state.
