Water tank built in the shape of Paikawng in Mizoram

The Government of Mizoram has built a public water tank in the shape of the traditional closed-bamboo basket (paikawng) in the historical village of Vangchhia in Champhai District.

Paikawng-shaped water tank in Vangchhia, Mizoram.

Paikawng is one of the most important household items of the Zo tribes. There are mainly two types – Khawngphui (closed-bamboo basket) and Kawngvar (open-bamboo basket). Both are used for carrying water in bamboo tubes, firewood and other items.

The one seen here is Kawngphui. Photo send by H.Zate.
