Aizawl: A training for fish farmers was organised by the Fisheries Department here in Serchhip yesterday.
It was orgainsed at the Hmar Veng YMA Hall and the programme kicked off at around 11 a.m.
District Fisheries Development Officer Pi Zonuntluangi said that it is essential for fish farmers to augment their output by applying scientific methods of farming.
“The government is doing its best in this regard and farmers should make the most use of the various initiatives including distribution of fish seeds. The government is ready to help anyone who are serious about achieving success,” she said.
About 80 farmers from Serchhip Circle – Serchhip, Bungtlang and Keitum villages – received training from department officials. The issues covered include how to make fish ponds, looking after fishes, how to breed and tips on marketing.
The farmers were also given monetary assistance of for buying fish seeds by the Fish Farmer’s Development Agency (FFDA), official statement said without elaborating the amount.
