Aizawl (www.zoramobserver.com): The Aizawl based People’s Right to Information and Development Implementation Society of Mizoram (PRISM) was officially converted into a political party to contest assembly election to be held next year.
This was announced by PRISM president Vanlalruata on the occasion of the special general assembly of the organisation on Friday.
Vanlaruata said that the organisation has converted into a political party and re-christened as ‘People’s Representation for Identity and Status of Mizoram’ to retained the abbreviated form of PRISM.
He also said that leaders of the former organisation will continue to lead the newly converted political party or PRISM.
According to Vanlalruata, the main objective of the PRISM was to change political system in Mizoram and root out corruption while ensuring efficient governance. “We have to have political power to change the system and root out corruption,” he said, justifying their decision to convert PRISM to a political party.
“We have formed ‘Peoples Representation for Identity and Status of Mizoram’ with the objective to bring good governance, safeguard Mizoram and to form a transparent government and a government which can be benefited by the youths and young generations, to maintain law and order, to punish the corrupted and develop the state, among others,” he said.
He added that the PRISM would contest the coming elections to the 40-member state legislative assembly in 2018.
Earlier in August, PRISM had released its election manifesto in view of the upcoming assembly election.
