Opium worth Rs 2 lakh seized in Aizawl

Aizawl: Acting on a tip off, Mizoram police on Wednesday seized 2 kg of opium near Ashok Leyland shop in Chanmari area in Aizawl and arrested two people including a  Myanmar national in connection with the seizure.

Police said that the contraband worth Rs. 2 lakh in the local market was seized from the possession of one Lalropuia Molsom (29)  S/o Boktisadon Molso, a resident of Bijoynandi in West Tripura, who presently lives in Tuikual locality in Aizawl.

In connection with the seizure Mizoram police also arrested a Myanmarese national Nochinthang (37)  S/o Remchunga after Molsom confessed that the contraband belonged to him. A special narcotic PS Case No. 7 / 17 Dt. 3.05.2017 u/s 18 (c) / 29 of ND & PS Act has been registered against both the accused.

This was the second seizure of opium in Mizoram during the last two years. Last year Mizoram Excise & Narcotics Department had seized 15.478 kg of the contraband worth Rs. 15.50 lakh in Bawngkawn area from the possession of one Lalramchuana Ralte (52) of Aizawl.
