Aizawl: The Mizo National Front slammed Congress-led Mizoram government for “failing” to announce any cash reward to Lalremsiami Hmar, the first sportsperson from the state to win a medal at the Asian Games.
Lalremsiami – a resident of Kolasib town – was part of the Indian Women’s hockey team that won the silver medal at the Asian Games 2018 which concluded in Jakarta recently.
“States like Odisha has awarded Rs 1 crore each to the six hockey players from the state while the Centre announced a cash reward of Rs 20 lakh each to all the silver medalists. Mizoram government remained silent on the issue and failed to honour the sportsperson till date,” MNF youth wing president Lalrinawma said during a campaign rally at Ramrikawn.
He urged the state government to honour and reward any player who brought laurels for the state.
Lalrinawma, who is also the sitting MLA of MNF alleged that Mizoram has been facing socio-economic assimilation due to rapid increase in the number of non-tribal.
He held the state government responsible for rapid increase of non-tribals as it did not give sincere concern to the welfare and development of indigenous youths.
The leader said that if the MNF comes to power it would establish manpower directorate to deal with the youths for their all-round development.
MNF leader Denghmingthanga, who also spoke on the occasion, said Mizoram has been presently plagued by different illness due to the bad rule of Congress.
He expressed hope that MNF would come to power to cure Mizoram of all its ills.
