Aizawl (zoramobserver.com): Responding to the call given by All India Federation of University and College Teachers’ Organizations (AIFUCTO) and Federation of Central University Teachers’ Associations (FEDCUTA), teachers of Mizoram University under the aegis of Mizoram University Teachers’ Association (MIZUTA) today boycotted teacher’s day by staging mass court arrest/demand day and wearing black ribbons in protest against the denial of implementation of 7th pay commission recommendation.
Hundreds of teachers and professors assembled in front of MZU Auditorium wearing black ribbons and holding placards to demonstrate their demands.
Sources from MIZUTA said that the mass court arrest was organized as there has been no positive response to several issues raised during observation of “black day” on 22 August last.
Speaking on the occasion, MIZUTA President Dr Lalnilawma regretted that the teachers have to boycott teacher’s day and staged agitation as the government refused to address the demands raised by the teachers.
Apart from boycotting classes, sitting demonstration with presentation and discussion of demands and procession were held during the mass court arrest at the varsity campus.
MIZUTA has been demanding for declaration of the UGC Pay Review Committee report and to make it public, implementation of 7th Pay Commission recommendation, filling of vacant post on permanent basis, scrapping of API and Ensure Time Bound Promotion, ensuring of Pension for all, and withdrawal of Retrograde Education policies, among others.
