Aizawl (zoramobserver.com): State Election Commission today announced by-elections to one village council in Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) and eight village councils in Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC) areas. The date of polling for the by-elections to nine village councils is scheduled on 22 August, an official statement said today.
Official statement said that polling will be held for 82-Gabasury village council in CADC area and eight village councils in LADC area namely Chawngtelui, Ngengpuitlang, Hmawngbuchhuah, Dumzautlang, Bolisora, Tuisentlang, Lawngtlai Vengpui and Archhuang on the schedule date from 7 am to 5 pm and the date for re-poll if required will be held on 23 August.
The last date for filing of nominations is fixed on 8 August till 3 pm, while the last date for withdrawal of candidature is on 10 August. Scrutiny of nomination papers would be held on 9 August and counting of votes would be undertaken on 22 August as soon as poll is over.
Release of candidate list and party symbol is fixed on 11 August.
Election process is scheduled to be completed by 26 August and the last date for formation of executive body is scheduled on 25 August.
There are 112 electorates including 58 female voters in 82-Gabasury as per the latest roll published on 29 July, 2017.
As for eight village councils in LADC area, there are altogether 3,164 electorates including 1,586 males and 1,578 female voters.
The by-elections to 82-Gobasury in CADC area which has 52 houses was necessitated by the death of a member. The by-elections to 4 each members three village councils in LADC area was necessitated by the dissolution of the village councils, while two village councils which have 3 members each was necessitated by the resignation of members and three other village councils in LADC area was necessitated by the untimely death of members.
