Mizoram progressing in many fields due to journalists, says Lal Thanzara

Aizawl (zoramobserver.com): Mizoram Information and Public Relation (I&PR) minister Lal Thanzara on Tuesday said that Mizoram made progress in a wide range of fields due to the contribution made by journalists.

“The journalists have progressively worked for the development of Mizoram and there is no denying the fact that the state has made progress in many fields due to the service and contribution rendered by them,” Lal Thanzara said while addressing journalist workshop here in Aizawl.

Praising journalists, he said that they put their lives at stake in disseminating news during unrest in Mizoram and some of them have even allegedly faced physical assault.

Citing that journalists have wide responsibility in letting the public know what is happening around the globe, Lal Thanzara said diligence, honesty and truthfulness are the credentials relatively required for journalism. “Without these credentials, a person can’t choose journalism on his own choice and interest. In order to help people know what is truth, journalist must work with honesty and truthfulness,” he said.

Imitating the father of nation Mahatma Gandhi, Lal Thanzara said that it is imperative for media persons to have self restrain and they should also have the wit to take right decision between bad and good.

“Journalists have a vast scope of freedom. But this freedom has its limit and journalists must know that they are also under the laws of the country. They should not misuse their liberty,” he said, adding that they should also pay respect to the privacy of individual and organizations.
