Mizo Carbon & Lottery scams: MNF threatens bandh if govt refuses CBI probe

Aizawl: The main opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) on Friday threatened the state government with statewide total bandh unless the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is called in to initiate a probe into the alleged multi-crore rupee lottery scam and the controversial  Mizo Carbon Product scam.
MNF president Zoramthanga while addressing a political session at Mizo Hnam Run said that the opposition would resort to aggressive ways unless Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla invites the CBI to probe into the scandals.
“We are waiting for the Chief Minister to take action and we would resort to staging either total bandh or picketing if he does not react to the appeal made by the opposition to call in CBI for probe,” he said.
Zoramthanga said that the opposition MNF has on Wednesday submitted a letter to Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla imploring the latter to call in CBI to investigate into state lottery scam involving loss of 11,808.77 crore and Mizo Carbon Product scam in which it was alleged that the firm illegally received subsidies amounting to over Rs 3.41 crore.
The appeal came after the Chief Minister challenged the MNF to initiate a CBI probe into the alleged corruption in the Mizoram state lottery and the Mizo Carbon Product Pvt Ltd, he said.

According to Zoramthanga, the alleged lottery scam would not be difficult to be probed as the CAG in its latest report tabled in the assembly last year clearly indicated that there was a host of irregularities in the way the Mizoram government handled the state lotteries that eventually resulted in a staggering loss of Rs 11,808.77 crores. He alleged that Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla and other top officials were involved in the controversial Mizo Carbon product scam and said that records showing coal transported by truck between Khleriat, Meghalaya and Mizoram five to six times in a day clearly points to a scam.
