Mizoram: Opposition calls for state wide bandh to protest bad roads

Aizawl ( A 12 hour bandh was called by main opposition the Mizo National Front (MNF) to protest poor roads across the state.

A statement issued by MNF said that state wide bandh would be observed on 14 September ( Thursday) from 5 am to 5 pm to protest the dilapidated condition of road across the state.

The opposition said that people faced enormous hardship due to bad roads as the government is not taking sincere effort to repair them. It alleged that almost all the state highways are under poor condition and some of them are not travelable.

Meanwhile, MNF senior vice president and MNF Action Committee Chairman Tawnluia said that the reason for calling a state wide total bandh is to protest the laxity of Congress government to repair road.

“The reason for calling total bandh is not due to bad roads created by rains but due to the negligence of Congress government,” he said.

He alleged that Congress leaders travels in helicopter and expensive cars but did not pay attention to repairing roads.

“Al most all the highways are under poor state and many of them are not travelable and many vehicles have refrained from plying due to bad roads. Congress government earmarked huge amount of money for repairing of road but did not pay sincere effort to execute it. Due to this people faced enormous hardship,” Tawnluia said while addressing a party meeting on last Friday.

He said that the proposed state wide bandh is an attempt to draw the attention of the ruling government.

“The hardship faced by the people should be taken into account, and in order to give solidarity to the people, we are planning to organise total bandh in the state,” he said.

He said that the proposed bandh would be observed in stricter manner in all parts of the state on 14 September  from 5 am to 5 pm.

All opposition leaders across the state have been informed about the proposed bandh and on Tuesday MNF office bearers will convene a meeting to discuss and chalk out plan for the proposed bandh, he said.
