Aizawl (zoramobserver.com): BJP Mizoram unit yesterday filed an FIR before the state’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) demanding probe against nine ruling Congress legislators including Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla, whose assets have allegedly “increased manifold” since 2008.
A statement issued by the BJP Mizoram unit said an FIR was filed against Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla, Minister John Rotluangliana, Minister P.C. Lalthanliana, two parliamentary secretaries Hmingdailova Khiangte and K Rinthanga along with legislators Lalrobiaka, H. Zothangliana, K.S.Thanga and Lalrinmawia Ralte.
Alleging that the “meteoric increase” of wealth of the ruling party leaders must be due to corruption, BJP Mizoram unit said while Lal Thanhawla was “proudly commenting his ministers and MLA as free from corruption, the assets of Congress legislators increased manifold during five years from 2008”.
“While the assets of elected legislators are increasing manifold, people are being drifted towards poverty,” BJP said in a statement.
MLA assets increased by 2,306%
The statement further said that the assets of Lalrobiaka, elected from Dampa seat have increased by 2,306% in five years from 2008, while the assets of Lal Thanhawla increased by 311% during the same period.
It said that the chief minister had over Rs 2 crore asset in 2008 and in 2013 it was Rs 9 crore.
The assets of transport minister John Rotluangliana has increased by 523% from Rs. 1 crore in 2008 to Rs 6 crore in 2013, while the asset of Social Welfare minister PC Lalthanliana has increased from Rs. 23 lakhs in 2008 to Rs. 1 crore in 2013 registering 428% growth, the statement added.
