Aizawl: Mizoram government is developing its first golf resort at Thenzawl and works are in full swing, according to Chief Secretary Pu Lalmalsawma.
The state’s top official visited the Thenzawl Golf Resort in the outskirts of Thenzawl town in Serchhip District on May 5 to take stock of the project.
Thenzawl Golf Resort is developed by the Department of Tourism under the ‘Integrated Development of New Eco-Tourism Destination under Swadesh Darshan’ promoted by the Union Ministry of Tourism.
“At an estimated cost of Rs. 9490.96 lakhs, and various tourist sites being developed in Thenzawl, South Zote and Reiek, the Swadesh Darshan scheme is the biggest tourism project undertaken in Mizoram thus far,” a government statement said.
The Thenzawl Golf Resort Project will have an international standard 18 holes Golf Course designed by Canadian based Golf Course Architect Firm Graham Cooke & Associates and 30 Eco Log Huts. Top technicians from overseas are currently working on log structures and log huts using high grade pine wood imported from Russia.
“The Golf Resort will also come with a fully equipped 10,000 sq.ft clubhouse, a modern state of the art convention centre, gazebos and a food court. The project is one of the fastest Swadesh Darshan implementations in the North East Circuit and is expected to be inaugurated by March 2018,” the statement added.
Officials from the Tourism Department, Mizoram and representatives from the project consultants – Fore Consultants Private Limited, New Delhi accompanied the Chief Secretary and they discussed the work, pace of implementation and their action plan for the remainder of the project. Pu Lalmalsawma was accompanied by Pu Lalhmingthanga, (Secretary, Rural Development Department), Pu V. Lalremthanga (Secretary, Tourism Department), Pi Sangchhin Chinzah (Deputy Commissioner Serchhip District) and other government officials.
