Joint investigation team to be set up for probe into alleged murder of Mizo girl

Aizawl (www.zoramobserver.com): A joint investigation team involving police personnel of both Mizoram and Assam would be set up to probe into the alleged murder of a 25 year old Mizo girl whose dead body was found at Bagha in Assam’s Cachar district bordering Mizoram on last Wednesday. The decision was made during the Mizoram Home Minister R. Lalzirliana’s visit to the crime scene on last Friday.

Citing the reason for his desire to set up joint investigation team, Lalzirliana told Cachar SP Rakesh Rohan that he is cautious about the driver being made an accused or perpetrator of the murder due to his poor understanding of Hindi and English.

He said that Mizoram police officials who will be included in the joint investigation team would be decided by Deputy Commissioner of Kolasib district.

On being requested by the Home Minister, Cachar SP also released the victim’s truck seized by Assam police and also handed over her mobile to Mizoram police.

As reported earlier, Lalhriatpuii, who had recently graduated from a college in Bagaluru was found dead under mysterious condition at Bagha.

The victim along with her driver  Lalhmingliana went to Bagha to buy bricks on Monday. Though the two decided to return on Tuesday, they were stranded due to blockade called by truck drivers.

According to Lalhmingliana the girl had gone missing since Tuesday night following which they searched the whole night but to no avail. Her dead body was found floating in a pond on Wednesday morning, he said.

Assam police who posted at Dholai police station have arrested the driver Lalhmingliana and Bhorbhuiya, the owner of hardware store from where the victim purchased construction materials. They were detained in the custody.

Meanwhile, Home Minister R. Lalzirliana expressed hope that the alleged murder of Lalhriatpuii, a resident of Chhinga veng in Aizawl would be fully investigated within 3 to 4 days. He also asked Assam police officials to send postmortem report to Mizoram as soon as hospital officials release it.

During his visit to Bagha, the Home Minister was accompanied by Mizoram DIG (NR&SR) Joseph Lalchhuana, Kolasib DC and Kolasib SP.
