Aizawl (ZoramObserver.com): At least five people have been arrested from Aizawl and Champhai by Mizoram Excise and Narcotics department and volunteers of YMA following the seizure of 69.5 grams of heroin and powerful drugs from their possession, officials said on Saturday.
The Anti-Narcotics Squad of Mizoram Excise and Narcotics department seized 8 grams of heroin at Khatla in Aizawl on Saturday and arrested two accused identified as Lalchhuanawma (26) of Tlangsam, Champhai District and Lalmuankima (33) of Kulikawn, Aizawl.
In another seizure, the Excise and Narcotics officials also seized 61.5 grams of heroin at Champhai town on Saturday and arrested one Jonah Misan (24) of Khawmawi village in this connection.
The seized contraband was worth Rs 3.5 lakh in the local market.
Meanwhile, volunteers of Central YMA, CID (Crime) and Kolasib Sub Headquarters YMA Kumpuan Committee seized 5.28 lakh tables of Pseudoephedrine at Vairengte in Mizoram-Assam border on Friday. The seized contraband worth over Rs 84.4 lakh was smuggled from neighbouring states to be peddled to Myanmar, a leader of CYMA said.
Two persons R. Lalmalsawma (37) of Zemabawk North and Lalchhanchhuaha (30) of Zuangtui, Aizawl have been arrested in connection with the seizure.
All the five accused were booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, officials said.
