FIR against ‘Chakma youth’ over ‘anti-Mizo’ remarks on WhatsApp

Aizawl ( The youth wing of the Mizoram People’s Conference (MPC) today filed an FIR at the Aizawl Police Station against an “unidentified Chakma youth” for posting “abusive and racial” remarks against Mizos on WhatsApp – a popular messaging mobile app.

MPC leader R. Lalchhawntluanga said that the FIR was filed in the name of the party’s youth wing vice-president VL Thazova.

The party said it wants the police to immediately launch a probe into the issue and bring to book the person behind such “abusive remarks” on a WhatsApp group. The party said such acts could incite communal tension.

R. Lalchhawntluanga alleged that an “unidentified Chakma youth” recently posted the remarks against Mizos on WhatsApp group called ‘The Face Of North East Seven Sisters Together Forever’.

“The perpetrator dubbed the Mizo girls as characterless who are easy to be slept with anytime,” he said.

He said that the party found the remarks “very insulting” and “it could instigate communal hatred”.

“The MPC youth wing will not ignore such baseless and offensive remarks against Mizos as it is a great insult on the community as a whole,” he said, adding the party is sure that the perpetrator “is none other than a Chakma youth”.
