Aizawl (ZoramObserver.com): Huge cache of drugs seized by Kolasib YMA sub-headquarter, police department and Excise & Narcotics department were destroyed on Wednesday.
Official statement on Wednesday said that about 3,615 tablets of Parvon spas, 3,11,135 tablets of Pseudoephedrin, 35 kg of ganja (cannabis), 52 strips of Nitrozepam and a substantial grams of heroin and bottles of liquor, altogether worth over Rs. 17 lakh were burned by state home minister R. Lalzirliana at Kolasib.
Speaking on the occasion, home minister R. Lalzirliana lauded the efforts of YMA in rendering help to the police and Excise & Narcotics department in combating drugs menace in the state. He, however, regretted for rampant drug abuse in the state and illegal peddling and smuggling of drugs across the state and asked concerted effort from public to combat this menace.
Expressing concern for rampant use of drugs, the home minister said an awareness campaign should be launched across the state to educate the people to refrain from drug abuse.
He also called upon all NGOs, church leaders to join hands with the government in combating drug menace in Mizoram.
Instances of drug abuse in the state has been constantly on the rise and with no stringent rules to curb the menace, the state has become a vulnerable target for drug peddlers and crimes associated to drugs. The state government and volunteers of YMA are taking relentless effort to curb this menace.
