At least ten people have been killed and five others injured when landslide and flash floods caused by heavy rainfall wreaked havoc in Mizoram-Bangladesh border Tlabung sub divisional area in Lunglei district.
Monsoon hit Mizoram after the depression in the Bay of Bengal entered the northeastern region on Monday morning causing incessant rains and flash floods at several places in the hilly state, officials said.
As many as 530 dwelling houses at Sairang and Tlabung area have been submerged by the swelling of Tlawng river and Khawthlangtuipui river. Paddy fields of at least 8 villages are also submerged by the flood. Over 100 families have been evacuated due to landslide and flash floods, officials said.
Officials said that over 2,000 families have been affected by flood in Mizoram.
Temporary shelters are being arranged by each village authority, and the state authority is yet to take stock of the damages as connectivity and communication lines have been snapped by the bad weather.
