Guwahati/Aizawl (ZoramObserver.com): Assam Chief Minister Sarbana Sonowal today ordered an inquiry into the death of two students from Mizoram, who were studying at Down Town University in the state capital.
According to an official release, the bodies of the two students hailing from south Mizoram’s Lunglei town were found near railway crossing at Panikhaiti area on the outskirts of Guwahati on Sunday morning.
“Ajay Sankar Tiwari, Principal Secretary of the Education Department has been directed to conduct a detailed enquiry to find out the cause of death of the two students,” it added.
Meanwhile, Sonowal talked to his Mizoram counterpart Lal Thanhawla and expressed condolence on the death of the two students from the neighbouring state.
Sonowal assured Thanhawla that a high level enquiry into the death of the students would be carried out and cause of their death would be brought to light.
As reported earlier, two Mizo students R Lalmalsawna and C Lalhmangaihsanga, both belonged to Lunglei Electric locality were found dead under mysterious condition along the railway track at Panikhaiti. They were last spotted near grocery shop at Panikhaiti area around 9 pm on Saturday.
The two students were studying two years diploma course in dialysis technician and physiotherapy at Assam Downtown University under the sponsorship of North East Rural Livelihood Project (NERLP).
Their mortal remains were brought home today and they will be laid to rest tomorrow at Lunglei Electric veng cemetery, family sources said.
Meanwhile, various civil bodies including MZP, MSU and Lunglei sub-headquarter YMA and political parties including MNF and ZNP condemned the alleged murder and demanded Assam government to compensate the bereaved families for their loss.
