Hmarveng (Churachandpur): The first Manipur State Transport bus (MN06B 0494) which will ply between Imphal and Pherzawl was given a warm reception at Churachandpur’s Bijang Transport Office today at 9 am, before departing for its final destination – Pherzawl.
The bus was flagged off by Chief Minister Biren Singh yesterday along with other inter-district buses in the state capital Imphal.
Local leaders led by Pherzawl District Development Committee held a short thanksgiving event in the presence of Pherzawl District Deputy Commissioner A Tombikanta Singh.
Hmar Christian Leaders’ Forum treasurer Rev. Lalsandam Songate dedicated the bus to God, the PDDC said in a statement.
“The PDDC sincerely appreciate the efforts of Chief Minister Biren Singh for taking a firm decision on restoring MST bus service in order to link all the district headquarters of the state. We also acknowledge the service of Thanlon MLA Vungzagin, Tipaimukh MLA Dr. Chaltonlien Amo and Pherzawl DC A Tombikanta Singh,” they said.
As a gesture of gratitude, Pherzawl DC and members of the PDDC were felicitated by Hmarveng Village Authority and members of HYA Hmarveng Branch.
“Your warm welcoming gesture shows how much people wanted to have the bus service restored by the state government. I thank you all on behalf of the government for organising this dedication and thanksgiving programme,” he told the PDDC and members of the public who gathered to witness the event.
The event was attended by leaders of the PDDC, Kuki Inpi (Churachandpur), HSA Hqrs, HYA Hmarveng Branch,Kuki Student Organisation, Pherzawl District chiefs and Village Authority members from Khawmawi, Hmarveng and Sielmat. Former minister and NPP leader Ngursanglur (Adviser, PDDC) and Former Gen Secretary of Hmar Inpui Pu David Buhril were also present along with other social workers.
Deputy Commissioner Tombikanta and PDDC member Manga Singson and Pherzawl chief Ramsangthang accompanied the first batch of passengers. The bus was expected to reach Pherzawl late in the evening.
“We hope that the bus service would be of immense help for the people of Pherzawl District and we will assist the state government in making this service a great success,” the committee said.
