Sielmat (Manipur): Prof Dr. Lal Dena took charge as Vice-Chancellor of Sangai International University yesterday.
With this appointment, Prof Lal Dena became the first tribal to occupy a Vice-Chancellor position in Manipur.
The temporary campus of the private university is based at Rengkai Road in Churachandpur District, which is the home of many Zo tribes. The permanent campus will be located at S. Boljang village in the same district.
“This university will be really useful for locals and I will do my best so that every deserving students can benefit from the Institute,” he said.
The retired History professor from Manipur University has written at least 10 books and his latest book titled “Fourth World: Indigenous Peoples’ Movement & India’s Northeast Experience” is almost ready. Of the 10 books, 9 are in English and one in Hmar.
