Jiribam (zoramobserver.com): Being dissatisfied with the indifference and step motherly treatment meted out to them, hundreds of people on Wednesday staged a public rally in protest against the discrepancies in the distribution of PDS items and various hardship faced by the neglected people of Vangai TD Block in Manipur. The rally was organized at Ankhasuo (Sibapurikhal) village in the newly created Manipur’s Pherzawl district under the aegis of Hmar Youth Association on 19 July.
According to a reliable source, PDS items such as rice and SK oil were last distributed in the area in the month of October 2016.
The rallying public in their slogan appealed to the higher authority to look into the matter and initiate a thorough probe into the discrepancies found in execution of National Food Security Act immediately.
Beside this, the number of ration card holders in the area is alarmingly low despite the fact that majority of the populace here depend upon agricultural and forest products for their livelihood; which become almost impossible to procure during the unforgiving monsoon period and this make the availability of ration cards to each house hold all the more indispensable.
Apart from this the Central Government move to make Aadhar card mandatory document for a citizen of India to enjoy various benefits and schemes has cause apprehension among the public as majority of them are still without Aadhar card, sources said.
Taking all these into account the public of Vangai TD Block under the aegis of Hmar Youth Association Jiri-Barak JHQ has organised the rally to air their grievances so that the Manipur government take notice of the plight of the vangai people.
Mention may be made that the road connecting Kangreng and Thingkal village has become not travelable by any vehicles due to unabated monsoon rain causing untold hardship to the villagers.
