Imphal (zoramobserver.com): Manipur Chief Minister N.Biren Singh flagged off Manipur State Transport buses today here in the state capital.
The state is restoring bus service after a gap of over 15 years.
“The government’s plan is to ply buses from Imphal to all the district headquarters,” officials told zoramobserver.com.
On Sunday, some of the bus service flagged off included Imphal to Pherzawl, Imphal to Moreh and others.
Here’s the first view of Imphal to Pherzawl bus.
While many people are happy and eager to take the first ride on the bus to Pherzawl, the officials appeared to have no consultation with the locals. The first sign can be seen in the spelling of PHERZAWAL. It should be PHERZAWL.
A look at the side of the bus also reveals more errors. Thanlon is spelled as Thanlong and Kangvai is spelled as Kangbai. However, the name in Meiteilon like Moirang, Ningthoukhong, Bishnupur, Nambol and Churachandpur are correctly printed.
“Officials should immediately make the correction before. The transport officials have been told about the error,” said Timothy Zote, PDDC public relations secretary.
Here’s another problem. The transport officials have no idea of what National Highway 2 that will take the bus to Pherzawl is like. They have provided a long bus which will not be suitable for the hilly areas where the roads are narrow and full of curves and turns.

Besides, the road between Bukpi and Pherzawl is not black topped and according to reliable sources, “it’s full of mud and potholes”.
The service to Pherzawl expected to begin from tomorrow, said district officials.
Details to follow on the flag off ceremony.
