Banned tobacco products worth Rs 6 lakh seized in Churachandpur

Sielmat (zoramobserver.com): The Churachandpur police along with Food Safety officials today conducted raids across several areas in the town and seized Baba zarda, Balmaki Safara, Saajan, Baba 160, Talab, Baba 120, etc worth Rs 6 lakh.

The raids were conducted under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Rakesh Balwal and led by ASP M. Kumarjit Singh, ASP(Ops)/CCP, SDPO/CCpur, SDPO/Thanlon, according to a police statement.

The police said raids were conducted in New Bazar, New Lamka, Nehru Marg junction and Singhat Bus parking.

“The seized items were handed over to the Designated Officer, Food Safety Churachandpur,” Superintendent of Police Rakesh Balwal told Zoram Observer.

In the evening, the DC of Churachandpur and the SP patrolled the market area. “Through a loudspeaker an awareness campaign on tobacco, liquor and narcotics abuse was conducted,” the police statement added.

There was no information on whether any arrests were made in this connection at the time of this report.
