The ongoing fbb Colors Femina Miss India 2017 is on full swing and the organisers are taking the contestants representing various states of the country to exotic locations for a photo and video shoot.
ZO is closely following the beauty pageant as this is the first time Mizoram is being represented in the Miss India contest. After Miss Mizoram Rody H Vanlalhriatpuii’s own words, we are “excited” both for her and for the state of Mizoram.
The young beauty from the hill state carries the hope and aspirations of many women like her who are trying hard to make a mark in a patriarchal dominated society – in all areas.

Women have come a long way in the “unorganised” fashion industry in Mizoram. Several beauty pageants have been held since the first Miss Mizoram contest which was held in 1984. Since then, several pageants like Miss Mizo, Miss Mizoram Supermodel, Miss Chapchar Kut and others were organised.
However, a more professional pageant came only in 2014 when the IHM became the main organizers of Miss Mizoram. “They successfully re-branded Miss Mizoram into something that’s more than a skin show to fit into the mindset of the Christian populace,” according to a Mizo sociologist at the Mizoram University.
