A band of local Muslims in Hyderabad claimed that they have filed a police complaint against the expressions of Malayali actress Priya Prakash Varrier over her winking expressions in the film promo of “Odu Adaar Love”.
Priya Varrier’s eyebrows expressions from the song ‘Manikya Malaraya Poovi’ instantly became viral soon after it was shared on Youtube. Hundreds of memes have been created by social media users to have “clean fun”. However, the complainants have objected to the picturization of the song claiming that the lyrics somehow is linked to Prophet Mohamad’s life.
A case of “deliberately hurting religious sentiments” has been filed at the Falaknuma Police station. Over 50 people were mentioned as the aggrieved persons.
A case was also registered against ‘Odu Adaar Love’ director Omar Lulu among others. However, it is not clear if a case was slapped against the actress.
Meanwhile, the police said that it will get language experts and Islamic scholars to translate the song before proceeding with the case.
WHY THE EXPRESSIONS ‘HURT’ MUSLIMS
One person who goes by the name of Adnan Qamar posted on Facebook a video to explain why Priya Varrier’s expressions were objectionable for Muslims.
He blamed the expressions more than the lyrics.
“It is sad that the filmmaker himself is a Muslim and almost the entire cast is Muslim but still such objectionable picturization has been shown in the film,” Qamar said in the video.
Qamar also posted the lyrics of “Manikya Malaraya Poovi” with English translation.
Qamar’s translation of the lyrics read: “A woman like the Pearl flower her highness – Khatija Beebi in the Holy City of Mecca she lived like a queen …”
The complainants said they had no objection against actress Priya Prakash Varrier. “It’s just that we do not like the picturization of the song,” they said.
