Aizawl (zoramobserver.com): Mizoram National Youth Front (MNYF) on Tuesday said that it would oppose the Central government if steps are taken taken to impose beef ban in Mizoram.
Speaking to reporters here, MNYF president Er Lalrinawma, who is also the sitting opposition MLA, said the Mizo Peace Accord signed in 1986 envisaged protection of religious or social practice of Mizos. He said that the party would oppose the Centre and fight to the end if measure is taken to extend beef ban in Mizoram. “We believe that the Mizo Peace Accord provides a guaranteed to the Mizos to enjoy their way of life and and if the Central government goes ahead with a beef ban nationwide, we will oppose it,” he said.
The opposition youth wing president also paid due respect to the Mizo martyrs who laid down their lives for the cause of Mizoram and Mizo people.
“The MNF party has strongly endorsed the initiative taken up by Ex-Mizo National Army Association in collecting the skeletal remains of martyrs,” he said.
He said that the youth wing took pride in the service and dedication made by all Mizo martyrs.
