Some reports have been doing rounds suggesting that the writer-Director Keith Gomes’ short film, Shameless, is India’s official entry in the 93rd Oscars in the ‘Live Action Short Film’ category. But there’s a bit of a catch as, Shaan Vyas, director of another highly acclaimed short film, Natkhat, starring Vidya Balan, clarifies that there’s no announcement as such, and the actual announcement will be made around February 2021. He adds, “I’m surprised at reports as in fact, Natkhat, which won Best Film at Best of India Short Film Festival, is eligible for Oscar qualification and very much in the race to Oscars 2021. Nathkat is a story of a doting mother who educates her young son about gender equality. It premiered on YouTube as part of the We Are One: A Global Film Festival. With an ensemble cast of Vidya Balan, Sanika Patel and Raj Arjun, the short film won various accolades and critical acclaim as well. The shortlisted list of five films that included ‘Natkhat’, ‘Shameless’, ‘Sound Proof’, ‘Safar’ and ‘Trapped’ are eligible for Oscar qualification, and none of them are announced as India’s Official Entry yet. Earlier reacting to the good news of Shameless’ supposed official selection, an ecstatic Sayani Gupta said, “My experience on Shameless was fantastic and now we submitting to the Oscars, it’s a wow! Keith is wonderful as a director and very gentle with his actors and crew. Hussain, of course is a great friend, and it was a ball working with him. We have a silent communication and understanding when it comes to improvisations etc,” while Hussain Dalal also lavished praise on his Director, adding, “Keith was clear with the way he wanted to tell this extremely unique story that communicates the hidden truth in society. We stayed honest to the process, had a blast making it.
