PSNI warn women to be vigilant after masked knifeman attacks five in 80 minutes

Police are searching through CCTV footage to identify the knife-attacker who carried out a violent rampage in Belfast city centre on Monday. Three women, aged between 19 and 22, were stabbed in the neck, arm and back of the legs during the attack which took place between 8:10 pm and 9:30 pm. The attacker may have been wearing black face mask and riding mountain bike, police said. “People are really anxious. Just even in my office team there are those living in and around those areas,” said South Belfast MP Claire Hanna.

Witnesses are being urged to come forward, and anyone with dashcam footage is being asked to check. “These were frightening random attacks for these young women but thankfully incidents like this are extremely rare,” a spokesperson said. The man was described as wearing dark clothing, possibly wearing hooded top, cycling mountain bike which may have light coloured frame and reflectors on the spokes. He was also wearing black mask, reports added. Notably, attack took place during the evening.
