Dementia patients who can’t see their families visited by miniature horse called Monet

Staff at a Care Home in York said residents benefit greatly from pet therapy, especially those with dementia. Staff added that the miniature horse Monet, which was brought back memories for residents, allowed residents to express themselves in ways they wouldn’t otherwise. Nearly all of our residents have dementia, so for them something like this is vital. Around 90% of residents at the home suffer from it.

‘K and L ponies’ have allowed me to take Monet, the dog, into the home. She said that the joy he brought to residents was amazing. Sarah added that due to restrictions, visits have been limited and residents can see their families through a glass screen in the garden. Notably, visitors have not been allowed through the fence at the house.
