The German Finance Minister, Olaf Scholz, is putting pressure on the German Chancellor Angela Merkel to place greater importance on climate change and consider various steps proposed. On Monday, the center-left Social Democrats (SPD) met with Merkel to prepare a plan to put together various strategies to help to prevent global warming and prevent a climate catastrophe.
One such strategy that the Finance Ministry is considering is issuing new debt, dubbed “green bonds,” which could help to fund the measures to protect the environment.
Various climate-related issues that are of concern to environmental activists in Germany are the overuse of coal mines. If a climate protection package is put forward, it seems likely that it will charge for carbon emissions.
