Aizawl: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has decided to contest the upcoming assembly polls scheduled to be held on 28 November.
This was announced by NCP Mizoram unit president Lalawmpuia Chhangte in a press conference at Aizawl Press Club here on Tuesday.
He said that the party will contest five assembly seats namely Dampa, Mamit, Hachhek, Aizawl West- I and Aizawl East-I.
Chhangte also released the names of candidates as per which he himself will contest from two constituencies- Dampa and Mamit in Western Mamit district.
Ramkinlova, who quit the BJP and joined NCP on Tuesday will contest from Hachhek, while party leaders Lalhruaia and Lalrinpuii will contest fromAizawl West-I and Aizawl East-I respectively.
Chhangte said that their main focus is on Mamit district as it is the most backward district in the state.
He expressed confidence that the party would win at least two seat in the upcoming polls.
Mizoram unit of NCP was launched in 2003 and the party has been contesting elections since 2008.
Elections to 40- member Mizoram assembly are scheduled to be held on 28 November. The last date for filing nomination is November 9, while scrutiny of nomination paper will be held on November 12.
The last date for withdrawal of candidature is fixed on November 14.
Counting will be held on December 11.
