Aizawl (zoramobserver.com): Mizoram home minister R. Lalzirliana on Thursday said that police would launch a manhunt for the culprit(s), who assaulted a young player from Manipur during the 26th Mini-National Volleyball Championship, 2018 held at R.Dengthuama Multipurpose Stadium here on Sunday.
He said that police will find out the miscreants and give stringent punishment for their mischievous act, which can lead inter-state rivalry between Mizoram and Manipur, an official statement said on Thursday.
The home minister also strongly slammed the incident as uncivilised and unfortunate.
He said that Sakil Chesam, the skipper of Manipur volleyball team was physically assaulted by some miscreants when the referee was allegedly giving favour to Manipur team during a final match against the home team in the recently concluded Mini-National Volleyball Championship, 2018 here.
The victim was then taken to Aizawl Civil Hospital from where he was discharged after doctors declared him he was stable.
After this, the victim was again taken to green wood hospital where he was found injured with jawbone fracture based on X-Ray examination, the minister said.
He expressed regret that the victim was not examined with X-ray at the civil hospital.
While expressing regret for the incident, the home minister said that such uncivilised conduct of the miscreants should not be repeated as it could lead misunderstanding between the two states.
Earlier on Tuesday, sports minister Zodintluanga also condemned the incident and expressed apology for the physical assault against the player.
The minister had said that the Mizoram government is committed and resolved that it will do everything in its power that such misconduct is never repeated, and that true sportsman spirit and common brotherhood are always upheld for the unity of one and all.
