Mizoram home minister Lalzirliana corrupt: PRISM

Aizawl: People’s Representation for Identity and Status of Mizoram (PRISM) on Tuesday levelled yet another corruption charge on home minister R. Lalzirliana for allegedly owning a multi-storey building at a locality in Aizawl.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference here on Tuesday, PRISM youth wing president RL Liantluanga said the home minister is owning a five-storey building at Republic veng locality here which worth Rs 1.2 crore.

He said that the home minister owning such building was not possible with his known sources of income.

Earlier the anti-corruption watchdog turned political party had accused R. Lalzirliana of holding disproportionate assets.

RL Liantluanga alleged that the home minister is currently constructing a multi-storey building at Durtlang locality which is worth Rs 1.5 crore and also owning plot of land at Kelsih area worth Rs 80 -100 lakh. With these, his total asset has been estimated at Rs. 3.66 crore, which is disproportionate to his known source of income, he said.

He asked the home minister to clarify the rapid growing of his wealth  within a short span of time and prove his innocence of corruption.  

According to the youth wing president, the total assets of R. Lalzirliana which was declared in his affidavits before the 2013 assembly elections was estimated to be Rs 51 lakh including a Mahindra pick-up truck and a bolero car.

He alleged that total assets of the home ministered had increased to Rs 3.66 crore within just five years.

“I hope the home minister, who is capable of raising his wealth to such huge amount in just five years will be able to help the people in augmenting their wealth,” he said.

He also asked the minister to help the people of Tawi assembly constituency deliver themselves from the bondage of poverty if he is intending to contest from the same constituency in the upcoming assembly election which is scheduled this in later part of this year.

According to the leader, the home minister draws a salary of Rs 88,000 per month as a minister and his total income accumulated from salary in five yearsis estimated to be about Rs 52.8 lakh.

His total assets of Rs 3.66 crore did not commensurate his known sources of income, he said.
