HPC(D) chairman H Zosangbera removed from position

Aizawl: H. Zosangbera, who headed Hmar People’s Convention (Democratic) as chairman was impeached on Monday for “violating” the former militant group’s constitution.

Zosangbera has been accused of submitting a list of proposed councillors for Sinlung Hills Council (SHC) to Mizoram government without the knowledge of HPC(D) Executive Council.

A statement issued by HPC(D) general secretary Darliensang Ralsun on Monday said that the chairman has been impeached by HPC(D) Executive Council held on 21 May for violating the constitution of the militant group by submitting names of councillors to run interim council.

The HPC (D) also expressed deep condolence over the untimely demise of its army chief Lal Ropuia, who died of complicated ailments on 21 May and said his position should be left vacant till further order.

It’s still not clear what had prompted Zosangbera to take a unilateral decision.

Meanwhile, sources said that the Easter Monday Peace Accord will be respected by both sides. “The government will honour its commitment given to the collective leadership of the group,” highly placed source in the accord negotiating team said.
