Aizawl: Levelling serious corruption charge against the ruling Congress government, main opposition the Mizo National Front (MNF) on Tuesday accused incumbent chief minister Lal Thanhawla, his brother Lal Thanzara, who holds the portfolio of health and sports minister Zodintluanga of robbing the people.
Speaking to reporters at a press conference here, MNF general secretary Zosangliana alleged that there was rampant corruption during 10 years rule of Congress.
“We want to announce again before the people of Mizoram how deep the Congress government has indulged in corrupt practices,” he said.
He said that the only option to make Mizoram free from corruption is rejection of the Congress.
Rebutting Lal Thanhawla’s comment that no Congress minister indulged in corruption, Zosangliana said the Congress government was filled with corruption as almost all the Congress ministers were involved in corrupt practices.
He said that the chief minister owned a plot of land in Kolkata, where is constructing a multi-storied building worth Rs 4.623 core, which is disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Quoting the CAG report presented to the assembly in 2016, the MNF leader said the Mizoram government lost Rs 11,808.77 crore during 2012-13 to 2014-15 fiscal because of non-deposit of minimum guaranteed revenue (MGR) and administrative expenses by four lottery distributors.
Citing that the state government during 2012-13 to 2014-15 received a paltry revenue of only Rs 25.45 crore, Zosangliana questioned the government the whereabout of over 10,000 crore.
“This is one of the biggest lottery scams in the country and this is the manifestation of how corrupt was the Congress government,” he said.
He also accused chief minister Lal Thanhawla of having secret pact with distributors in the lottery scam.
Hitting out at health minister Lal Thanzara, the MNF leader said the people of Mizoram have to suffer because of the corrupt nature of the minister, who held a plethora of share in Sunshine Overseas, the company whom the state government gave undue favour in awarding many contracts.
Lal Thanzara had resigned from the cabinet on 18 August 2015 over an allegation that he held 21.6 per cent in Sunshine Overseas, a Delhi based construction company which bagged crores of rupees worth road construction works under the state government.
He had also been accused of supplying crores of rupees worth nutrition items to the state Social Welfare department through his owned company HP Food Products while being Parliamentary Secretary and a minister of state.
Zosangliana alleged that people has to suffer and road across the state has been greatly affected by the corrupt nature of the minister.
He said that the minister still received supply contract to Social Welfare department in the name of his son.
Zosangliana also alleged that sports minister Zodintluanga had involved in Mizo CarbonProduct scam in which the firm which claimed to have processed charcoal at its unit in the Industrial Growth Centre at Luangmual in Aizawl, has been allegedly illegally received central subsidies amounting to over Rs 3.41 crore since its inception in 2011.
